Wooden stocks are, however, not past their sell-by date. Many high achieving target shooters still prefer them, which has required manufacturers to continue production and development of the traditional rifle. Below are images of a British owned, customised, modern Anschutz.

Fryxell Marlin Firearms, the very name conjures the image of a lean horseman, with a red bandana wrapped around his dusty neck and a work-worn felt hat jammed awkwardly onto his head, his chestnut mount braced at a sudden stop, and both of them are intently focused on something just out of the picture. The Marlin levergun is poised, almost at port-arms, ready to snap to the rider’s bestubbled face and deal the unseen threat a leaden blow.

Modal Trigger Trent Procter of Swan River, Manitoba, shows his injured left hand months after his muzzleloader exploded. This time, the gun barrel exploded, knocking the farmer from Hampton, Iowa, backward, severely damaging his right hand and ear and burning his face. Unknown to Hansen, the manufacturer of the rifle that injured him in had received other complaints of explosions and injuries over the prior decade. Customers repeatedly reported that the barrel of the stainless steel 10 ML-II muzzleloader exploded, burst, split or cracked, according to thousands of court documents reviewed by The Associated Press.
Lawyers for the company, Westfield, Massachusetts-based Savage Arms, were expected to appear Wednesday in federal court in Iowa to defend against a lawsuit filed by Hansen. He is seeking damages for his injuries, alleging the company failed to warn customers about the defect. At least three have been settled on a confidential basis since last year. Savage Arms has argued that operator error is to blame for the explosions, saying users must have created too much pressure inside the barrel either by loading two bullets or using the wrong amount or type of gunpowder.
In , Congress blocked the newly created Consumer Product Safety Commission, which has broad authority to regulate everything from toasters to toys and BB guns, from restricting the manufacture or sale of firearms.

There are a number of methods by which a rifle can be dated, or at least bracketed between certain years of manufacture. For the latter, dates of introduction of military arms can be located within the Government “List of Changes” LoCs as can dates of obsolescence and of modification or upgrade to later marks. You may not necessarily find specific date information within the text of particular pages, but often the images of advertisements or catalogue entries contain some dating ‘give-away’, such as the year in which a particular rifle achieved a notable competition score by someone, but which data is in graphic format and therefore not “searchable” by a text search engine.

The original 15 But first, we have to mention seating them — in cases that had been cleaned, sized and annealed before being used in the tests. Case-pockets were cleaned and the new caps inserted using the Lee Auto-Prime XR hand tool, the one with the square primer magazine. To me, this is the first plus in SRP brass over the traditional LRP type and a not insignificant one at that — the more consistently and sensitively one seats primers, the better the chance of good performance.

Moreover, irrespective of make and type, all LR primers are specified to use 0. To understand the issues at play here, we need to travel back nearly 90 years.

With the modern “Smart Phones” or video cameras, you may see many “Documentary Videos” by aspiring producer Joe Smutts who have recently bought one of these guns, try to do a documentary video about it and of course how accurate it is, but they have no clue as to anything other than what they have read by other “Joes”, much of which could also have been corrupted. I have no problem with what they are trying to do, but please do their research first AND get it right.
This writer is known for his excellent coverage of firearms, but the model he does pick here to illustrate this model appears to be a late E in Rem. In this article, I have tried to be as factual as possible, not only to help the gun owner, but to more positively identify these firearms for the unknowing modern poor gunsmith. My background is that I was a part time gunsmith since , full time since and factory warranty for 8 major firearms manufacturers, including Savage from about until I shut my shop down in When I shut it down, I had 4 other full time gunsmiths plus myself, who, even though they went thru gunsmithing schools, but were pretty much still apprentices, and with the volume and quality of work we had, I could not give them all post-graduate training.
We had way to many returned repairs, and it got to where I had to personally inspect every outgoing firearm, and re-repair many of them after hours. I could not see any quick cure, so I shut the shop down and moved into manufacturing obsolete gun parts which I had been doing part time for many years away. I have been through the West Haven Savage factory numerous times being a Warranty Repair Center for them , been friends with the sales and service personnel and have factory documentation on many items that is not available to even the normal gunsmithing trade.
Through this association, I purchased much of the obsolete Savage factory tooling in including that to make the magazines for these models, and the extractors. I have a well worn, dog eared complete factory parts catalog with numerous notes penciled in. However for some of this, it is about impossible to place information in a direct linage as to the different series of guns into manufacturing timing because of overlaps I do try however. That is partly why an overlap of information will be found.
Much of the information you see here is not available anywhere else in any location if at all.

I had talked myself out of getting the Ruger Precision but then one of my wholesalers had one Savage 12 LRP come in stock early one day last week. I fought the urge for a few seconds but gave in quickly and ordered it before someone else beat me to it. I had to sell a couple guns to pay for it and the accessories brass, dies etc.
