Bans on interracial marriage, same-sex ‘marriage’ — parallels?

Southern Baptist leaders have continued to debate on the issue of speaking in tongues and private prayer language in recent years as some agencies have adopted policies banning the charismatic practice. Amid ongoing discussions, LifeWay Research, a department of LifeWay Christian Resources, wanted to determine the perceptions and opinions of Southern Baptist Convention leaders on an issue that has been a topic of interest, indicated Brad Waggoner, vice president of research and ministry development at LifeWay. Results of the study showed that overall, 63 percent of Protestant senior pastors believe in the gift of a private prayer language. Within the SBC, 50 percent of pastors believe in the gift and 43 percent do not. Non-SBC pastors are more likely to believe that the Holy Spirit gives some people a private prayer language than Southern Baptist pastors. According to the study, 66 percent of non-SBC pastors believe in the gifts while 32 percent saying they don’t. When asked about the meaning of “tongues” in the New Testament, 62 percent of Southern Baptist senior pastors said it is the “God-given ability to speak another language. Overall, 33 percent of Protestant pastors believe the gift has ceased. And I think that is an important finding in this study.

As they saw it, it was important to ‘reconstitute’ and not just ‘reform’ the Church. There was emphasis placed on personal conversion and on baptism, which was to be given to individuals who had personally professed faith in Jesus Christ, that is, to believers only and on mutual covenanting between and among believers.

Though taking some years to crystallize, the reconstituting efforts of Smyth, Helwys and others gave distinctive shape not only to the group’s belief and practice, but the various others which emerged from it.

Howbeit, I am an Independent Fundamental Baptist. I am first and foremost a born-again believer, but I believe that the Baptists, particularly Independent Fundamental Baptists, come closest to following the Scriptures in their churches.

I say this as a true southern woman: But I have now lived half of my life in the Midwest and Northeast and can say without hesitation that most non-southerners have firmly held ideas about what a Southern Woman is and isn’t. Call it a myth, a stereotype, call it an archetype, but despite the fact that southern women are as diverse as the population of the United States, the image of a Southern Woman persists in the popular imagination. The thing is, the South is not a monolithic cultural landscape.

I was born to a Cajun father and a Creole mother whose ideas about how to raise a girl were different enough that they might as well have come from different planets. It’s not just accents in New Orleans that are utterly different from those in nearby Baton Rouge or Ville Platte, but expectations for women.

After a string of #MeToo scandals, Southern Baptist women in a summer seminary program struggled to reconcile their theology with their ambitions.

The name Independent Fundamental Baptist Church is used traditionally by churches which pattern themselves strictly after the example of the early church as found in the New Testament. Today the name Baptist is used by many churches who are not truly following the teachings of the New Testament. Some of these churches have gone so far to even deny the fundamental teachings of the Bible, such as the deity of Christ, the virgin birth and salvation by the Grace of God, through faith.

Others have to a lesser degree compromised the Word of God by their teaching, practices and church polity trying to confront to popular religious tends. The true Independent Fundamental Baptists have no association or fellowship with these churches because they teach or practice things contrary to the New Testament. The name Fundamental Independent Baptist is of recent origin and came into being because many modern day Baptist churches compromising the Word of God and teaching and practicing false doctrines.

There were however, many Baptists who loved the Word of God and held true to it and refused to abandon teaching the New Testament. In order to distinguish between the doctrinally unsound Baptist churches and those that believed the Bible many Baptist churches changed their name. These true Baptists added the adjectives Fundamental and Independent to their name in order that they not be identified with the false practices and teaching of the doctrinally unsound churches using the Baptist name.

An Independent Baptist Church would not be apart of a national organization that would exercise authority over the local church. Independent churches have no organized organization over them in authority. They direct their own affairs under the authority of the New Testament Scriptures, free from the outside interference. The New Testament teaches that Christ is the head of the church, Eph.

What Southern Baptists must do to slow their decline

No one speaks for Southern Baptists. There are over 15 million of them and 30 million opinions – especially on such a peripheral issue as dating. However, a 16 year old girl dating a 20 year old man is something I not my church would generally frown on. It has nothing to do with my denomination or religious beliefs – just logic and fatherly instinct.

At church, I’d be friendly to all. If you came to my office, I’d wask some hard questions.

Independent is a term for churches that emphasize the local church and do not follow a denominational body or convention (as opposed to Southern Baptists who have a convention). This means each church is responsible for itself.

Think of the abuser as a con artist. Pastors and other spiritual leaders become adept at using spcipture to back up their subtle manipulation and control. Leaders often find ways to control, not only what happens in their churches, but also what happens in Your personal life. For example, leaders in the Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination would frequently communicate the need for us to consult with them or your discipler before making decisions especially major decisions.

Fratranizing with people who have left the church is strictly forbidden. The message was that the Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination had the monopoly on the gospel message and the only way to be truly saved was to get saved from the message that the Independent Fundamental Baptist Denomination brings. I remember when an older girl who had graduated from our school came back from college and her hair was died. Churches that abuse often focus on the penalty for sin. Questioning is often discouraged, forbidden, or branded as a sign of rebellion or lack of spirituality. Those who do not follow the rules may be labeled, shunned, shamed, or removed from church positions or even excommunicated.

Feb 01,  · I have been independent fundamental Baptist churches since I was four. I vaguely recognize some of the standards that you mentioned, but not to the extreme that you have described them. The items you are questioning are not the “doctrine” of independent fundamental Baptists.

The final approval of its present form was given May 2, It should be read as the official statement of the ruling Council of the church beneath the authority of Christ and the congregation. While there are aspects of this statement that some deacons and pastors do not hold as personal convictions, we all assent to this statement being the church guide for membership and discipline.

Ideally it should be read in connection with the paper, The Meaning of Membership and Church Accountability. Part 1 Introduction Divorce is painful. It is emotionally more wrenching than the death of a spouse. It is often long years in coming and long years in the settlement and in the adjustment. The upheaval of life is immeasurable. The sense of failure and guilt and fear torture the soul. Like the psalmist, night after night a spouse falls asleep with tears. Work performance is hindered. People draw near or withdraw with uncertain feelings.

What draws women to a religion that says men should be in charge?

For Les, a Reformed Baptist who does not admit to each of these is secretly attempting to convert his congregation, despite all protestations to the contrary both by the duped church and the deceitful pastor. Yet I have never met any Baptist who claimed to be Reformed who looked like this Reformed Baptist man, straw or otherwise. Reformed Baptists actually hold to a congregational, elder-led form of church structure 1 , which is a far cry from “non-congregational”. Every church — whether they protest liturgy or not — has a liturgy 2: So, if by this Les means that Reformed Baptists prefer ‘high church’ liturgy, he is mistaken.

I would also think that all Baptists would be in favor of “societal giving,” 3 but here I think that Les opposes anything but Cooperative Program giving as being anti-Southern Baptist.

And Seligman was the one responsible for inviting these women to the restaurant that evening for their first crack at recruiting Pataky to their city.

Just some guy You been bringing up apologetics that were lies and I dismantled them. Why are you defending slavery? Show me Biblical from the KJV and historical proof that ancient Israelites suffered the exact same way as the African or Barbary slave trade. You said that Biblical slavery was different than American slavery. In the first one, there is a general prohibition against slavery of anyone and in the second, a specific order against slavery of Israelites. Voluntary labor is completely different from your critera of slavery.

Voluntary labor arises when a person becomes so poor that they cannot make a living, cannot provide for themselves, and sell themselves into a relationship with a person who has money and can provide for the poor person.
